How it works: The blue Virtual Radar blip eminates from your GPS location and follows you in real time. As you approach reported trap locations and one or more of the traps come within that alert area, Trapster® begins playing spoken alerts such as "Live Police" or "Red Light Camera", and animating the associated icons. Of course as with everything Trapster®, you can report new traps and rate the traps that other users have reported.

1) Go to www.trapster.com on your Nokia browser or www.traspter.com/m on your other mobile browser and click the appropriate download link.

Alternatively, you can enter the appropriate link below directly into your mobile browser.

Nokia N95, N96, N97, 5800, E71, and other Symbian s60

** Nokia s60 phones are compatible with Trapster. See note at bottom of this page about whether your other J2ME phone is compatible with Trapster®

2) Allow the program to install, and then exit the mobile browser.

3) Go to the Applications or Games or Downloads or similar folder, and then find the Trapster® police car icon. Click on it.

4) If you are already a registered Trapster® user, use the login button. If not, you can create an account now using the signup button at the top of this page, or you can sign up directly from the app. An account is only required if you want to submit traps, rate traps submitted by others, or use some of the more advanced features of the system.

5)You will see a "Searching for Location..." message on the map if your location has not yet been determined. Before it finds you, it will show you in Rancho Santa Fe California, directly in front of our favorite restaurant, Delicias! If GPS cannot find your location, you can press "0" and enter a location manually, however Trapster cannot automatically alert you if it cannot find your GPS location. You can only use it to browse reported traps in your area.

6) If there are traps near your current location, they will appear as icons on the map. You can click the icons to get more information about each trap, such as who reported it, when it was last reported, etc.

7) You can conveniently report traps at your current GPS location using the shortcut keys (see list below) or the corresponding menu items. You can also adjust the position of the trap using the trackball and the map on devices with hard keyboards, or drag the map with your fingers on touch screen devices.

8) There are seven types of alerts supported by this version of the mobile application: live police, red light camera, fixed speed camera, usual police hiding place, combo camera, mobile speed camera, and checkpoint. For each type of alert, a corresponding audio file will play.

9) You can customize your alert radius, what types of traps you want alerts for, audio, and other preferences using the Settings menu on the mobile. You can configure more advanced settings such as Trusted Groups only by accessing the Web site from your desktop computer.

Notes: Please plug your car charger into your phone while running these apps (GPS and screen backlight consumes battery life)! If your phone does not have internal GPS, you may be able to purchase an external Bluetooth GPS accessory. Even if your phone does have GPS, you may want to consider the external Bluetooth accessory.
